Safeguarding Statement
Owls Daycare is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children in our care. We believe that every child has the right to grow up safe, healthy and happy, and we expect all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment.
We follow the statutory guidance and legal requirements set out in:
-
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework 2025, including its safeguarding and welfare requirements;
-
Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023);
-
Relevant local safeguarding partnership procedures and Ofsted requirements.
Our safeguarding commitment includes, but is not limited to:
✔️ Keeping Children Safe
We take all necessary steps to protect children from abuse, neglect, and harm while in our care, and work in partnership with families and external agencies where needed.
✔️ Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
We have a trained DSL who leads on all child protection and welfare matters. All staff know how to contact the DSL and understand their individual responsibilities.
✔️ Recruitment & Suitability
We follow safer recruitment practices, including enhanced DBS checks and reference verification for all staff and volunteers.
✔️ Training & Awareness
All staff receive regular safeguarding training and updates so that they can recognise signs of abuse or neglect and respond appropriately.
✔️ Policies & Procedures
Our safeguarding practices are detailed in our policies, which are regularly reviewed, updated and available on request — including child protection, behaviour management, whistleblowing, attendance/absence, and safer working practice policies.
✔️ Working with Parents and Professionals
We work collaboratively with parents, carers and local safeguarding partners to ensure that children receive timely help and support, when needed.
✔️ Reporting Concerns
If you have a safeguarding concern about a child at our setting, please speak to our DSL immediately.
If there is an immediate risk of harm, contact 999.
